Microsoft Intune
Part of Microsoft Endpoint Manager
Microsoft Intune is a cloud-based service that focuses on mobile device management (MDM) and mobile application management (MAM). You control how your organisation’s devices are used, including mobile phones, tablets, and laptops and can also configure specific policies to control applications.
Intune for devices is also available and is designed to deliver a lower cost for enabling Intune management on devices that are not affiliated with specific users.
Ideally suited for an increasing number of devices that need management but are not user-specific, such as Teams Rooms and many other single-purpose devices that may fall under Android and Apple management. Intune device-only subscriptions to not benefit from any user-based security or management features.
With Microsoft Intune, you get a platform that allows you to create policies on devices and manage these policies via integrated groups within the Microsoft Azure and 365 platforms. With more and more organisations moving away from traditional on-premises or data centre-based servers, Intune fills the device management role and encompasses mobile devices in a way historical solutions struggled to do.
Microsoft Intune gives organisations granular control over what users can do based on policies that can be created and applied to specific users, groups and devices that are used. Intune, for example, can prevent users from accessing sensitive data on employee-owned devices and it can require baseline security requirements to be met on devices that are company or employee-owned.
Intune is part of Microsoft’s Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS) suite and is an integral part of the Microsoft Modern Workplace. It also integrates with Azure Information Protection for data protection. It can be used with the Microsoft 365 suite of products. For example, you can deploy Microsoft Teams, OneNote, and other Microsoft 365 apps to devices. Furthermore, third-party applications can be added to the organisation’s Apps for Business store and employees can pull down approved, ready to use company applications with no need to contact their IT Team.
This feature enables people in your organization to be productive on all of their devices while keeping your organisation’s information protected with policies you create. Intune integrates with Azure Active Directory (Azure AD).
Where can I get a license for Microsoft Intune?
Intune is currently available in two formats, Intune, or Intune for devices.
Both options are available as a stand-alone subscription and Intune is included with EMS E3 and E5 and Microsoft Business Premium subscriptions.
