Defender for cloud apps

Cloud App Security (CASB) allows organisations to better understand their overall cloud position across software as a service apps (SaaS) and cloud services and add controls to protect sensitive information.

Cloud App Security allows organisations to better understand their overall cloud position across software as a service apps (SaaS) and cloud services. Cloud app discovery, part of Cloud App Security, allows organisations to identify services that are in use by their organisation and assign a risk level. The Security element allows controls to be added to the identified applications and data flow.

  • Visibility: detect all cloud services; assign each a risk ranking; identify all users and third-party apps able to log in
  • Data security: identify and control sensitive information (DLP); respond to classification labels on content
  • Threat protection: offer adaptive access control and provide user and entity behaviour analysis and malware protection

Example use case

With cloud-based applications and services now the default way of working and users working increasing outside of secure networks, IT teams no longer have the ability to easily control what applications are in use or restrict their adoption in the same way as they would if they were applications that needed to be installed on company assets or could be identified and blocked via network security devices. For this reason, there are significant risks posed by users adopting new applications or services without the knowledge of the organisation leading to sensitive data being stored or shared with unvetted third-party providers. Cloud App Security identifies, reports and scores apps and services used to mitigate and control this risk.
